Crown Heights Wine & Food Festival
It will be a kosher wine experience like you’ve never experienced.Over 50 kosher restaurants, wineries and distilleries will be featured at the Crown Heights Wine & Food Festival to be held on Sunday, March 10, 2019, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM EDT.
The festival is being coordinated by Wine by the Case, a premier wine store on Empire Blvd. in Crown Heights with proceeds going to benefit the Friendship Circle of Brooklyn assisting children with special needs.
Organizers said the event will introduce the Jewish community to the culinary revolution in Crown Heights, making the neighborhood an unparalleled hub for kosher wine and culinary innovation.
Over 100 wines and spirits will be showcased to taste by winemakers from Israel, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, New Zealand, Australia and the U.S.
There will also be samplings of spirits from distilleries in France, Russia, Scotland, Ireland, Mexico and the U.S. Proceeds from the event will go to Friendship Circle of Brooklyn.
“The top producing wine countries are France, Italy, Spain, and more,” said Shmulik Stell, manager of Wine by the Case. “Unfortunately due to Middle East politics, a lot of distributors and connoisseurs not only do not register the quality in production of kosher winemakers, but they will also not even consider the option of carrying or trying products from the land of Israel.”
Israeli-made products will be featured at the event, which will be held at the store on Empire Boulevard. Stell said Israeli winemakers are given the opportunity to flourish and properly showcase their products due to the growth in the kosher wine industry.
“We put a lot of effort into curating a product line that is Israel focused,” said Menachem Reich of Wine by the Case. “We have the largest selection of Israeli wine in New York City and we do everything we can to promote Israeli winemakers and support our brothers and sisters in the holy land.”
Joseph Rothvogel, an industry consultant and former Wine by the Case manager, said it is important to support Israeli wineries and educate Jewish consumers about kosher wine.
Rothvogel said this event will be an opportunity for consumers to learn more about dry wine and expand their wine horizons. “Dry wine is of higher caliber,” he said. “People should make kiddush on dry wine, for the simple reason of hiddur mitzvah.”
Rothvogel said there are many who will not drink any dry wine outside of a cabernet sauvignon in what he called the “cabernet epidemic.”
He said the kosher wine market has become more diverse, and with more varieties than ever before on the market, people should open themselves to trying new things.
The wine will be paired with local chefs, caterers, restaurants and kosher food manufacturers.
